About Cricket Mind
Talent is only part of the story.
Cricket Mind was created to help players bridge the gap between what they can do in practice and what they actually deliver in matches.
Why Cricket Mind exists
What you can do and what you deliver are not always the same.
Cricketers can train well, prepare properly and know their game — yet still find that matches feel different.
Pressure, expectation, mistakes and uncertainty can all affect how much of that ability they are able to access.
That gap between ability and performance is where Cricket Mind began.
The experience behind the idea
Cricket Mind grew from one question.
After progressing through junior cricket, Young England and professional First-Class cricket with Lancashire, Nathan Wood went on to work in high-performance coaching and coach development with England Cricket.
That question became the starting point for Cricket Mind.
Where the story turned
Talent did not guarantee the outcome.
Nathan had scored a First-Class century at The Oval and was regarded as one of the most promising young batters in the country.
His professional playing career was over.
What gets in the way when ability is clearly there?
Despite the talent, opportunity and access to elite coaching, something was missing. The answer was not technical.
Over time, the pattern became clearer: how players prepare, think, respond to pressure and deal with setbacks can shape how much of their ability they are able to show.
What experience revealed
The missing piece was not more technique.
Talent, effort and good coaching all matter. But players also need ways to handle pressure, manage emotion, prepare effectively, make clear decisions and respond when things go wrong.
Players perform more consistently when their mindset and behaviours support their ability.
What guides Cricket Mind
Mental performance is something players can develop.
We believe players perform best when they understand themselves, prepare with purpose and have practical ways to respond to pressure, mistakes and uncertainty.
That means the work is not about motivational slogans or trying to think positively.
It is about helping players build habits, strategies and behaviours they can actually use in practice and matches.
Cricket Mind today
Built around more than one perspective.
Cricket Mind brings together experience from professional cricket, high-performance coaching, international coach development and sport psychology.
That breadth matters because no two players experience the game in exactly the same way — and the right support depends on the individual, their role and what they are trying to improve.
The aim is simple: give cricketers practical support that helps them play at their best when it matters most.
The people behind Cricket Mind
Different expertise. One shared purpose.
Cricket Mind brings together coaches and specialists with different backgrounds, perspectives and areas of expertise. What connects them is a shared aim: helping cricketers think more clearly, respond better and perform more consistently.
