FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Clear answers to common questions about one-to-one mentoring for players and coaches
HOW MENTORING WORKS
Yes. All one-to-one mentoring sessions are delivered online via secure video conferencing. This allows us to support players and coaches across the UK and internationally, without sessions needing to fit around travel or location.
Sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes. We recommend allowing up to an hour so there’s no need to rush either side.
This varies depending on the individual and their circumstances. Some people choose weekly or fortnightly sessions for continuity, while others prefer monthly check-ins. The pace of support is flexible and can change over time.
Yes. What you share in mentoring sessions is treated as confidential between you and your coach, except in rare safeguarding-related situations where action may be required.
Sessions are delivered by members of the Cricket Mind Online team, all of whom have experience working in high-performance cricket environments and supporting players and coaches across different levels of the game.
QUESTIONS FROM PLAYERS
Yes. Many players we work with are juniors. Mentoring at a younger age often focuses on building strong habits around preparation, focus, reflection, and emotional regulation that support long-term development.
Parental involvement varies depending on age and circumstances. Parents may join part of a session, particularly early on, or may simply be kept informed where appropriate. The approach is always discussed and agreed together.
The initial session is about understanding the player and their cricket. This includes discussing background, current challenges, and what they would like support with, before deciding how mentoring might help going forward.
No. Mentoring is designed to complement technical coaching, not replace it. The focus is on how players think, prepare, and respond in training and matches, rather than on technical instruction.
That’s very common. Mentoring often begins by exploring what’s currently happening in your game and identifying where support would be most useful, rather than starting with a fixed goal.
QUESTIONS FROM COACHES
Yes. Coaches we support work across grassroots, club, pathway, and performance environments. Sessions are always shaped around the coach’s specific context.
Player mentoring focuses on supporting performance and development on the pitch. Coach mentoring focuses on how coaches think, plan, communicate, and lead within their coaching environment.
Yes. Sessions often centre around real situations such as session design, communication with players, leadership under pressure, or navigating challenging environments.
Mentoring is grounded in practical application. Ideas are discussed in the context of your coaching environment and explored in ways that can be tested and applied between sessions.
No. Mentoring is different from formal CPD. It provides space for reflection, discussion, and application alongside any courses or qualifications you may be completing.
